Following threats issued by the Oba of Lagos against Igbos living in Lagos, the Department of State Security has said that it would take appropriate action to handle the threatening speech.
Recall that His Royal Highness Oba Rilwan Akiolu had threatened any Igbo who refuse to vote for the candidate of a particular political party with death. This has generated a lot of tension not just in Lagos, but across the country.
While answering questions at the National Information Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, the DSS spokesperson, Marylyn Ogar, said the service was handling the matter without giving details of the action that it was taking.
Ogar said, “We are taking appropriate action. Yesterday, the service had once again, warned all Nigerians not to fan the embers of discord within the country.
“If the presidential election had come and gone successfully, we wouldn’t want people to begin to wipe up sentiments unnecessarily. So we are handling it.”
