The Sultan of Sokoto shared his opinion on the outcome of the presidential election, as a result of which Muhammadu Buhari emerged winner.
Based on the figures from 35 states, it became clear even before the official announcement by the INEC that the All Progressives Congress candidate won. Gooluck Jonathan himself called Buhari to congratulate him on the victory.
Speaking with Channels TV before the announcement of the figures from Borno state, Alhaji Abubakar noted that President Jonathan’s action was a lesson for all Nigerians.
He expressed confidence that such a gallant move would strengthen democracy in the country and elevate Nigeria’s standing in the world.
“The gesture by Mr President should be seen as a sign of the development of our democracy.”
The Sultan also praised Jonathan for his commitment to the peaceful conduct of the elections saying that the president has demonstrated a high level of integrity.
“Mr President has strengthened our beliefs in his words.”
Abubakar characterized this year’s presidential election as “the best election we (Nigeria) have ever had”.
